Designed by Dr Jan du Plessis, a full-time GP working in southwest England, all the tools it offers have been extensively trialled in a busy surgery. GPintranet™ has proved so successful that it’s now being made available to other practices across the UK. |

HELPING YOU TO MODERNIZE Almost all GPs now use the internet on a daily basis, making a web-based application the ideal solution when it comes to improving the efficiency of the way we work. GPintranet™… ...is a breeze to use, with no need to learn complex new application skills. MESSAGE BOARD Got something that all your team should know about? Simply post it on the GPintranet™ Message Board. Messages can include rich text, hyperlinks and images – you can even choose font colours and use a spell-check. INSTANT MESSAGING This feature lets you send individual messages to any member of your team currently online. Online members are displayed in your screen’s right panel - simply click on their name to send a message straight to their screen or mobile phone. They’ll receive an alert, enabling a prompt response. iMAIL This fully featured internal mail system allows you to send both group and individual iMails at the click of a mouse. Messages can be flagged up as tasks and passed on to other team members to be completed later. iMail can also generate automatic reminders of significant events, audits and clinical meetings, with all messages archived for easy retrieval and audit. ORGANISE YOUR DAY The sheer volume of appointments, meetings and tasks to be carried out in a typical gener al pr actice can sometimes sem overwhelming. With GPintranet™, it all becomes a lot easier to manage. TASK LIST This handy tool keeps track of activities in a busy surgery. The Task List is integrated with Instant Messaging and iMail, making it easy to pass on tasks to other members of staff. The due date of tasks can be set and revised and you’ll be reminded when a task is overdue. Once a task is completed, it’s archived for ease of audit. Calendar Anyone who’s ever missed an important date will appreciate this tool, which makes it easy to keep on top of events. Today’s events are listed in the right panel of your screen and you can also create custom categories of events to view separately. The calendar will remember your favourite categories, with private entries only visible to the user who created them. STREAMLINE MEETINGS Agenda items can be added to upcoming team meetings, streamlining the meeting process and avoiding the common problem of an agenda that’s out of date by the time the meeting takes place. An on-screen icon reminds users of all upcoming meetings. RAPID ACCESS TO KEY DOCUMENTS Finding the right for m or set of guidelines just when yo u need it can be a re al headache. The Documen t Store is a simple yet secure way for you to archive, retrieve and share all kinds of electronic documents that you and your team might need. EASILY UPLOAD ALL DOCUMENT TYPES Any document can be easily uploaded to GPintranet™, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files. What’s more, all files are automatically backed up on the system’s secure servers. EFFICIENT ARCHIVING AND RETRIEVAL Documents can be archived by category and sub-category for ease of retrieval and a document counter keeps track of their use. Users are alerted of new documents relevant to them. Sensitive files can be locked so that they are only visible to selected users. SHARING AND TRACKING KEY DOCUMENTS Need a response to new guidelines? Just send an iDoc to selected team members. All documents viewed are tracked to be included in your appraisal summary. GPintranet™ can also keep track of review dates for guidelines and protocols, reminding you when these are due. TAILOR THE SYSTEM GPintranet™ can be customized to suit individual users, allowing yo u to choose the way documents are viewed and the tools available on your screen’s right panel, for instance. You can also adj ust the ‘look and feel’ of GPintranet™ to your preferences. USER ADMINISTRATION The user administration tool can be used to edit or delete user account information and set custom access to different areas of the site. Updates are installed automatically via the web. Web LINKS AND CONTACTS Wherever you log on to GPintranet™, your favourite internet links will be there for you. You’ll also be able to use a fully featured address book with all your contacts, including email, web addresses and a free text area where you can make notes on contacts. This is especially useful for practices with surgeries in more than one location. All entries are searchable from the Address Book or via the Site Search tool. GPintranet™ VOICE A fully featured MP3 dictation system comes embedded with GPintranet™, allowing you to make quick and accurate records of referrals, meetings, etc. (no more inaudible or lost tapes!). This tool can be used with a USB foot pedal to enable easy transcription. TAKE THE PAIN OUT OF APPRAISALS AND EARNINGS ANALYSES This allows you to generate an Appraisal Document in MS Word format with just one click. You have total control over the content and the document can be printed or emailed to your appraiser. The Appraisal Tool can capture PUNs & DENs, significant events, clinical meetings, referral rate statistics, Choose & Book, emergency admissions, urgent referrals, medical reports and minor surgery. It will also list all documents reviewed and evidence based articles read during the previous year. My dBase This is an area of GPintranet™ where your daily activities can be recorded. Clinicians can keep track of referrals, medical reports, minor surgery, acupuncture, significant events, clinical meetings and clinical audits. All these records can be distributed to selected members of staff and are used when generating an appraisal document. MY dBASE can also calculate earnings from enhanced services, like minor surgery and accidental injuries, on a monthly basis and offers a tool to manage medical reports and keep track of payment for these. If a payment is overdue a member of the admin staff will be informed. KEEP UP TO DATE WITH EVIDENCE-BASED MEDICINE It can be hard to keep on top of the latest developments in evidence-based medicine (EBM), especially if you have to keep revisiting websites to check for updates. Using RSS (Real Simple Syndication) technology , GPintranet™ does this for you, scanning the Net for updates and bringing them straight to your screen. RSS NEWS TICKER The RSS News Ticker brings you the latest EBM information from more than 12 sources and is always visible in your screen’s right panel. Sources include BMJ, NICE, Clinical Evidence etc. GPintranet™ also gives you links to a large selection of additional RSS feeds from various sources to read online, including management and nursing links. Live Data Capture GPintranet™ captures information regarding the evidence-based medicine you have read online, your use of the Document Repository and searches you’ve made online using the search tools on the site – all very useful data when generating your appraisal document. CLINICAL CALCULATORS AT YOUR FINGERTIPS With GPintranet™, a range of powerful clinical calculators are never more than a click away. eGFR CALCULATOR The estimated glomerular filtration rate calculator uses both the MDRD and Cockcroft-Gault formulas. Simply enter clinical information to retrieve an up-to-date management plan from the UK Renal Foundation website based on your patient’s calculated eGFR. It also provides the correct read-codes needed for the nGMS contract. JBS CARDIAC RISK CALCULATOR The Joint British Societies cardiac risk calculator is used daily in making important decisions regarding clinical management. It displays calculated risk in graphic form which can be printed for patients to take away. PHQ-9 CALCULATOR This generates a one-page Word document which can be included in the patient’s clinical records, helping to optimise management of patients with depression or mood disorders. Management guidelines are automatically generated. SHARED CARE PRESCRIPTION TOOL This helps minimize risk when prescribing Methadone, Buprenorphine and Dexamphetamine to substance-misuse patients. After medication collection dates and doses are entered, the prescription detail is generated and can be copied into your clinical software. An alert is displayed if a potentially inappropriate dose or combination of medication is prescribed. Other calculators include predicted peak flow, spirometry reference value, temperature / weight / height conversion, pregnancy wheel and alcohol unit calculator.
